Learn More »The FDA told a Senate subcommittee on May 14, 2008, that at the present time it is not recommending that the public discontinue using food contact items that contain bisphenpol-A (BPA), a chemical additive most commonly found in baby bottles, water bottles and other food containers. Norris Alderson, Ph.D., chair of the FDA’s BPA Task Force, told the Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Affairs, Insurance and Automotive Safety, that a large body of available evidence indicates that food contact materials containing BPA currently on the market are safe, and that exposure levels to BPA from these materials, including exposure to infants and children, are below those that may cause health effects. Dr. Alderson stressed that if the FDA determines that BPA is not safe, it will take action to protect the public. CCH Washington News Bureau.
